The Cluj engineering hub is part of a wider international ecosystem, and the local capability continues to grow. About the role As a Data Designer, you decide what data should be brought in from source systems into the Enterprise Data Warehouse, and how that data should be transformed to make it usable for reporting and downstream systems. You are accountable for analysing and documenting source system data against business requirements; determining how and how often it is loaded; defining and documenting the mappings, harmonisation, derivations, calculations and other transformations that make data easy for the business to use; and ensuring the target data model is coherent and works alongside the other models in the warehouse. This is a design role rather than a pure engineering one. You sit between the business and the Data Engineers, translating requirements into models that hold up over time. You will work closely with the Platform Data Architect, the Platform Principal Data Designer, source system and business experts, Data Engineers and Quality Engineers. Responsibilities • Design data warehouse solutions driven by business demand. • Understand solution requirements, working with the business to clarify them where necessary. • Identify and document possible data sources, analysing and profiling the data they contain. • Work with source system and business experts to understand how business processes create and update data. • Create and maintain logical and physical data models for warehouse solutions, working with the Platform Data Architect to ensure they fit the data roadmap and principles. • Create and update source-to-target data mappings, defining transformations and calculations. • Capture metadata — attribute definitions, datatypes, PII classification and similar — working with the Platform Principal Data Designer to stay in line with established principles and conventions. • Support Data Engineers in the implementation of your designs. • Support Quality Engineers in testing the data warehouse objects. Qualifications Required • Experience in SQL querying. • Experience working with data in data warehouses, or 5 years' experience working with MI/BI data. • Strong attention to detail. • A proactive and curious mindset. • A collaborative approach to work. Desirable • Experience of data profiling. • Knowledge of ETL processes. • Understanding of data quality management. • Understanding of data lifecycle management. • Experience of working with data in Databricks. The desirable list is genuinely desirable, strong SQL, clear thinking about how business processes turn into data, and the discipline to document it well matter more than any single tool. About the offer Our client offers a competitive package and room to grow: • Annual performance bonus and employee referral bonus • Private medical coverage through Regina Maria – Priority Plan, extendable to your spouse or children at no additional cost • Life insurance through Metropolitan Life • Eyeglasses vouchers and a co-funded 7Card fitness membership • Access to LinkedIn Learning, LEO Learning and Bookster • Meal vouchers, plus gift vouchers on several occasions throughout the year • 21 days of annual leave, increasing with tenure up to 25 days • Additional days off when public holidays fall on weekends • Paid leave for special life events • Hybrid working model and a flexible schedule • Modern, collaborative workspace with fresh fruit and premium coffee You would join an international engineering organisation where data is treated as a product rather than a by-product, with the scope to influence how the warehouse is modelled and how the business consumes it.
