About The Role and Team Quantum Motion is a fast-growing quantum computing scale-up headquartered in London and founded by internationally renowned researchers from University College London and Oxford University, with over 40 years’ experience in developing qubits and quantum computing architectures. Bringing together state-of-the-art cryogenic facilities and an outstanding interdisciplinary team, we are developing quantum processors based on industrial-grade silicon chips, with the potential to radically transform computing power in areas such as materials modelling, medicine, artificial intelligence and more.   This role forms part of our global investment in state-of-the art facilities across London (UK), Sydney (Australia), San Sebastián (Spain) and Maryland (the US). It reflects our commitment to driving innovation and collaborating with some of the brightest minds in the quantum industry, and additionally taps into the regional strengths in semiconductors and cryogenics around the world.   Our mission is global, and this is a rare and exciting opportunity to join a team which is shaping the future of quantum computing, while also contributing to the development of European quantum technologies by joining the SPINs project to build up quantum PDKs.    As part of our high-impact and rapidly growing team, you will be working closely with our scientists, engineers and experts in a dynamic environment to make the site run smoothly and compliantly from day one, dedicated to contributing to the development of scalable quantum computers based on silicon technology. Our Team Since 2021 our team has been listed every year in the “Top 100 Startups worth watching” in the EE Times, and our technology breakthroughs have been featured in The Telegraph, BBC and the New Statesman. Our founders are internationally renowned researchers from UCL and Oxford University who have pioneered the development of qubits and quantum computing architectures. Our chairman is the co-founder of Cadence and Synopsys, the two leading companies in the area of Electronic Design Automation. We’re backed by a team of top-tier investors, and we have recently closed our Series C funding of $160 million.   We bring together the brightest quantum engineers, integrated circuit (IC) engineers, quantum computing theoreticians and software engineers to create a unique, world-leading team, working together closely to maximise our combined expertise. Our collaborative and interdisciplinary culture is an ideal fit for anyone who thrives in a cutting-edge research and development environment focused on tackling big challenges and contributing to the development of scalable quantum computers based on silicon technology.   Our team of 110+ is based in the UK (Oxford and London), Australia (Sydney), Spain (San Sebastián) and the US. Functions of the Role This is a rare and exciting opportunity to be an employee at a scale-up shaping the future of quantum computing.       As part of our lean, high-impact and rapidly growing team, you will be working closely with our scientists, engineers and experts in a dynamic environment dedicated to contributing to the development of scalable quantum computers based on silicon technology. Specifically, you will contribute to the EU-funded project SPINs (the European pilot line industrializing semiconductor spin-qubit quantum chips) launched under the EU Chips Act and the Chips Joint Undertaking. Your role will focus on developing quantum PDKs for semiconductor-based spin qubits.      As an Senior Quantum Engineer, you will play a critical role in the development and execution of experiments focused on silicon-based quantum systems, while focusing on the investigation of thermal management in quantum chips, assessing the impact of control peripherals on QPU operations. • Designing, configuring, and executing experiments on multi-qubit silicon devices, with an emphasis on high-frequency, low-noise signal acquisition and thermal transport measurements. • Supporting the architectural design of scalable quantum computing systems built on silicon platforms. • Assisting in the optimisation of cryogenic infrastructure, including dilution refrigerator setups, for quantum device testing. • Writing and maintaining software tools for measurement automation and data analysis. • Performing rigorous analysis of experimental results to support internal decision-making and technical manuscripts. Experience - Essentials • PhD degree in physics, engineering or related field.                     • Proven record of experience in characterisation of nanoelectronic devices. • Proficiency with Python • Expertise in radiofrequency or microwave electronics            • Ability to independently design and carry out complex experiments; perform data analysis and prepare technical reports and presentations.                         • Strong collaborative approach with good communication and interpersonal skills • An inquisitive nature and logical approach to problem solving Experience - Desirable • Experimental experience with semiconductor quantum dots. • Experimental experience with nanoscale thermal transport. • Experience in development of software interfaces to hardware/instrumentation. Experience leading research teams.
